BURY ORCHARD and the SPINNEY – RULES and CODES OF CONDUCT

THE USE OF BURY ORCHARD and the SPINNEY
is conditional upon observing the following

RULES and CODES OF CONDUCT

1. Persons using the areas known as Bury Orchard and the Spinney do so at their own risk.

2. Persons shall not wilfully, carelessly, or negligently deface, damage, injure, remove or destroy any wall, fence, tree or shrub in or enclosing Bury Orchard and the Spinney or any building, railing, post or seat thereon. Neither shall they remove any timber, cut or otherwise. Persons may not plant or otherwise introduce any living plant, tree, or shrub to these areas without the permission of the Parish Council.

3. Persons shall not ride any motorcycle, moped, horse or donkey on Bury Orchard or in the Spinney except with the permission of the Parish Council.

4. Motor vehicles, except those specifically authorised by the Parish Council, shall not be driven onto Bury Orchard or into the Spinney

5. Model aeroplanes using any type of mechanical power shall not be flown on Bury Orchard or in the Spinney.

6. Persons shall not on Bury Orchard or in the Spinney wilfully, carelessly, or negligently throw or discharge any missile to the damage or danger of any other person. The carrying or use of any weapon (airgun, firearm, catapult, or crossbow) loaded or not loaded is forbidden. (maximum penalty 6 months imprisonment and £2500 fine).

7. By law, dogs must be kept under control and owners are responsible for the actions of their dogs. In the interest of Health and Safety dog owners are requested to make use of the Dog Litter Bins provided.

8. Persons over the age of 12 years shall not use any swing or other apparatus provided for the use of children under the age of 12.

9. Persons shall not, except with the consent of the Parish Council, erect any sign, notice board, post, rail, fence, tent, booth, stand, building or other structure on Bury Orchard or in the Spinney

10. No public functions, except those authorised by the Parish Council, shall be held.

11. Persons practising the game of golf shall only use practise balls i.e., hollow slatted balls which can only be hit a short distance.

12. Depositing of rubbish, including builders’ rubble, excavation material, garden refuse (including grass mowing), paper wrappings and drinks containers, is an offence under the litter laws.

13. The lighting of fires is prohibited.

14. The pond area is a Nature Reserve and a County Wildlife Site. It is prohibited therefore to sail any type of boat, to swim or paddle or to throw missiles of any type from the shore side into the water. No vegetation within the pond area may be removed or damaged.

It is also prohibited for anyone to go on the pond when its surface is covered in ice.

15. Unauthorised use of metal detectors is prohibited. Application for use to be made in person to the Harlington Parish Council.

16. Notwithstanding the above rules the Parish Council, as Managers of Bury Orchard and owners of the Spinney, reserve the right to ban any activity which might damage the public area or interfere with the enjoyment of other users.

17. Users are required to allow unimpeded access to HPC contractors

Harlington Parish Council is the manager of the Bury Orchard on behalf of the Parish Lands Trust and is the owner outright of the wooded area known as the Spinney. All matters concerning these areas and their use are subject to Harlington Parish Council agreement.
