BEDFORDSHIRE FIRE AND RESCUE (BFRS) is continually striving to look at new innovative ways to deliver road safety education. With the collaborative work that we do with our partners in the Bedfordshire Road Safety Partnership, BFRS successfully won a funding bid to support the development of a road safety vehicle that will utilise modern technology to engage, entertain and educate the young drivers utilising virtual reality films to enhance the learning experience in various areas of road safety awareness.
The vehicle is funded by BFRS, the OPCC to support Road Safety Partnership.
Owned and managed by BFRS, the vehicle, named Vision, will be used to support all our collaborative partners educational initiatives to achieve our joint objectives of reducing the number of people killed or seriously injured on the roads within Bedfordshire.
The new Vision van will fully embrace BFRS commitment to using virtual reality as an education tool. Using dedicated hydraulic chairs inside the van will allow users to better experience every VR application that we have within our library or in the future, produce to support our service aims.
The new Vision van will have a community launch at Barnfield College. Details for the launch event are below:
When: Wednesday 24 April, 2pm – 4.30pm
Where: Barnfield College, Barnfield Avenue, Luton, LU2 7BF
The van will be available for short demos and photographs.
