Burglary Prevention Advice from Bedfordshire Police

Local Priorities Burglary – Prevention Advice

🌅 Evenings Are Getting Lighter – Let’s Keep Burglars in the Dark 🏡🔐

As we head towards brighter evenings, it’s a great time to think about home security. Longer daylight can make it feel safer, but burglars often take advantage of homes that appear unoccupied or unsecured.

Here are a few simple steps to help protect your property:
🔸 Always lock doors and windows, even when you’re at home or just popping into the garden.
🔸 Use timer switches on lights if you’re out during the evening.
🔸 Keep valuables out of sight – don’t leave laptops, keys or bags near windows or doors.
🔸 Secure sheds, garages and side gates, and put tools away so they can’t be used to force entry.
🔸 Check fences and garden boundaries to make sure there are no easy routes into your property.
🔸 Report any suspicious activity in your area — trust your instincts.

We’re continuing patrols across the area and working with the community to reduce burglary, but your vigilance is key.

Stay safe, look out for each other, and help keep your neighbourhood secure 👮‍♂️

Burglary is a particularly invasive crime that can have a lasting impact on victims. If you have been a victim and need support and help, you should have been offered the services of Victim Support. You may have declined at the time, or not noticed the offer, but can refer yourself at any time by either calling 0808 168 9111 or visiting their website www.victimsupport.org.uk.

Burglars do not want to get caught, so taking action to make your home or business premises safe and less attractive to thieves can go a long way to reducing the risk.

Not all advice, or security products recommended are the same, or necessarily fit for purpose.
