Important roadworks information
M1 between junctions 11a and 14 – essential maintenance repairs
I am writing to tell you that we plan to carry out monthly essential maintenance repairs on the M1 in both directions between junctions 11a and 14. Work includes technology repairs, cyclical maintenance, drainage, sweeping grass cuttings, surface repairs and sign cleaning work.
We continue to do regular maintenance on the M1 in this location on pre-planned dates to keep the road in a good condition, rather than wait until there are issues where we need to do emergency repairs.
We plan to complete this work overnight on the 16 October and 17 October 2025. We will work between 10pm and 5am, weather permitting.
Closures and diversions
To carry out the work safely, we will need to close the M1 in both directions between junctions 11a and 14 and divert traffic as follows:

Traffic will be diverted via the A5. Then to the A505 to continue on the A4146. Then to the A5 onto V6 (Standing Way). Then follow the A4146 (Tongwell Street) to Childs Way to the A509 to rejoin the M1 at junction 14.
Traffic wishing to join the M1 junction 13 will be diverted via the A421 to join the above diversion.
