We have received the following informtion from National Highways:
M1 southbound full closure between junction 14 and junction 11A – collaborative cyclical/reactive works, maintenance & response, operational roadside technology, resurfacing
I am writing to tell you that we plan to carry out collaborative cyclical reactive works, maintenance & response activities, operational roadside technology maintenance, and resurfacing on the M1 southbound between junction 14 and junction 11A. This will ensure the M1 continues to remain in a safe and serviceable condition.
We plan to complete this work overnight on Friday 24 April 2026. We will work between 10pm and 5am, weather permitting.
Closures and diversions
To carry out the work safely, we will need to close the M1 southbound between junction 14 and junction 11A and divert traffic as follows:
- Drivers planning to travel from the A509 should follow the route to the A5 Portway junction
- Continue southbound on the A5 towards Kelly’s Kitchen roundabout
- At Kelly’s Kitchen roundabout, follow the A4146 towards Thorn roundabout
- At Thorn roundabout, take the A5 link road eastbound
- Continue on the link road to rejoin the M1 at junction 11A
Please note emergency vehicles will not have access through the works.
