ADVANCE NOTICE OF ROAD CLOSURES

I am writing to update you on the upgrade work we’re doing to improve safety on the M1 between junctions 10 (Luton Airport) and 13 (Milton Keynes South/Bedford).
Our work will involve installing new CCTV cameras, Motorway Incident Detection and Automatic Signalling (MIDAS) and repairing variable message signs, which are used to assist with the management of traffic on the motorway. Our control centre operators monitor the motorway for incidents, allowing us to manage these events and maintain the network.
To carry out this work safely, we’ll need to close the carriageway between 10pm and 5am when traffic levels are at their lowest. Each closure will have fully signed diversion routes in place. Please find below the closure information:

Please note these are provisional dates which may be subject to change due to conditions outside of our control, such as adverse weather or road incidents. We’ll update our website accordingly with any changes, which can be accessed at:

We’ll do all we can to keep disruption to a minimum, but we anticipate delays during peak times, so we’re encouraging drivers to plan ahead and allow extra time when travelling.
