Network Rail has requested the following information is shared
I write to update you on urgent essential work we need to undertake on the railway track in Harlington, north of the station. The recent bad weather has damaged the ground which supports the railway and we need to put piles into the embankment which the tracks run along before the track can be repaired.
The attached photo shows our fence at the bottom of the railway embankment which is tilting as a result of the ground movement. Our teams have been on site since the weekend working to understand what needs to be done to stabilise the ground. Piling work is due to start tonight (Tuesday 9 February).
We also have to transport significant amounts of stone to site to reinforce the bottom of the embankment and carry out work to stabilise the tracks.
The track stabilisation involves a tamping machine which shakes the ballast supporting the track to make sure it’s providing a solid platform. This tamping is expected to take place at the end of this week.
Informing local residents
We’re hand delivering letters to local homes today and our project team will be available online tonight, Tuesday 9 February, at 1830 to answer any questions which cannot be answered by our team on site. The meeting will be held on Teams and can be accessed using this link – http://bit.ly/3aInfZS
Additionally, please let me know if you have any questions or would like a separate meeting.
Impact on train service
We are aware that there are still passengers who are relying upon the railway for their essential journeys. Trains are still running but we have had to amend service.
Until early next week there will be two trains per hour at both Harlington and Flitwick stations as opposed to the regular four an hour.
All trains operating through the area are doing so at a reduced speed to keep everyone safe but this is causing some delay to journeys. We are working hard with Govia Thameslink Railway and East Midlands Railway to make sure that all passengers who need to travel can do so in safety with appropriate social distancing.
Any passengers who need to travel should check at www.nationalrail.co.uk or with their operator.
