I’m writing to let you know that we’re carrying out emergency drainage repair work on the M1 between junctions 12 and 13. Once complete, this work will help surface water drain more effectively from the M1, reducing the risk of standing water and helping to keep journeys safer and more reliable.
We plan to carry out this work from Friday 27 March to Friday 3 April. We will work overnight between 9pm and 5am where needed. Some lane closures will also need to stay in place during the day while we complete the repairs.
Closures
From Friday 27 March to Sunday 29 March, we will close the M1 southbound between junctions 13 and 12 overnight from 9pm to 5am. Details of the diversion route are below. Safety is our number one priority and to provide a safe working zone for our workforce, there will also be some northbound lane closures.
Over the weekend, lanes three and four will be closed in both directions during the day between junctions 12 and 13. Lane three in both directions will reopen at 5am on Monday 30 March.
From 5am on Monday 30 March until 5am on Friday 3 April, lane four will remain closed in both directions. There will also be extra overnight lane closures in both directions from Monday 30 March to 5am on Thursday 2 April.
On Tuesday 31 March, we will close the M1 northbound between junctions 12 and 13 overnight from 9pm to 5am. Details of the diversion route are below.
On Wednesday 1 April, we will close the M1 southbound between junctions 13 and 12 overnight from 9pm to 5am to remove the temporary barrier. We may also need to work on Thursday 2 April as a contingency.
